We find that preventative maintenance goes one of two ways – it is either one of the steps people stress the most about, or it is the most ignored aspect of autoclave ownership. Your autoclave’s longevity comes solely down to how well you maintain it. It has maintenance periods that are highly recommended to be followed for that reason.
Daily, weekly, monthly, yearly, it requires a lot of care. However, some autoclave owners neglect some or most of the maintenance. Sometimes it’s legitimate forgetfulness, or other times, they don’t know what to do. There’s lots to keep track of and not everyone is as good about it as others, and not everyone knows the warning signs that their autoclave needs maintenance right away. A problem came to our attention recently that showed us just that.
So in this article, we’d like to go over what basic signs you’ll see when it’s time for repairs. And as is our job, to offer you a solution to help take the hard work out of the equation and give you an easier way to do it. As always, if you have questions about this or anything else, call us at 704-966-1650, option 3 for our Free Tech Support.
The Problem
When it comes to preventative maintenance, there can be different reasons as to why it doesn’t get done enough or at all. General forgetfulness is one of them. We understand that while it’s important, it’s a lot to memorize and remember on top of your already busy day. So you may forget some steps or just neglect a maintenance period altogether. Or it may come down to lack of knowledge or unawareness. Some people can’t spot the signs that your autoclave can show when it’s time for maintenance. There may be some people that can. But maybe not all of them know how to proceed to fix the issue.
Maintenance signs on autoclaves can have different ways of showing depending on what needs to be done. But there are basic signs for all autoclaves that show when it’s time for maintenance. Things like:
- Draining the Water – Failure to do this can build sediment in the water tubing.
- Maintaining the Door Gasket/Seal – Not keeping the gasket free of debris and not replacing it on time can lead to major wear and tear. And a non-functioning door gasket can result in a poor seal and lead to major problems.
- Door Springs – If your unit has door springs that need replacing, not doing so can lead to problems with opening and closing the door.
And these are just some of the problems that come with lack of maintenance. There are many different steps to preventative maintenance for each unit. So if there’s more than even this to worry about remembering, how can you make sure that you do what needs to be done properly and on time? That’s where we come in.
