How often should a Statim device be cleaned?
The interior of the machine should be cleaned every week with a mild, chlorine-free dish soap. For fully detailed instructions on cleaning and care, the Operator’s Manual should be consulted. However, it’s important to remember that Statim autoclave machines must be tested and serviced on a regular basis. The CDC recommends a spore test on each Statim sterilizer at least once a week. If you receive an error code on your refurbished autoclave, it’s important to note the error code and consult the Operator’s Manual for further instructions.

Do all disinfectants have the ability to clean and disinfect at the same time?
Organic matter, like food, blood, or bodily fluids, forms a barrier on the surface that can prevent disinfecting abilities. Additionally, this type of matter can increase the contact time needed to reach and kill the germs. Because of this, it’s going to depend on the specific disinfectant product’s capabilities. Some products will have the ability to clean and disinfect at the same time, even in the presence of organic matter. But some other products will not. So it’s important to thoroughly read the label of each disinfected product to fully understand what it is able to do.

How can I tell if the filter on the machine needs to be replaced?
At the back of the unit, there should be a white air filter and a bacteria-retentive filter. If a filter has turned a gray color, it should be replaced. A dirty filter can cause poor drying, so it’s important to regularly monitor these filters to ensure maximum efficiency.

What should I do if my Statim has not been run in multiple days?
If your Statim machine has not been run for several days, you should run two wrapped instrument cycles before resuming as normal. Additionally, it’s a good idea to thoroughly clean the inside and rinse and dry the machine.

Hopefully, this series has provided you with sufficient information to now begin your search for RPI parts for a Statim autoclave. A sterilizer can be beneficial in ensuring the effectiveness and efficiency of disinfecting the instruments in your business.
