How often should I replace the cassette seal?

Scican recommends that to ensure peak performance from your Statim 2000 autoclave, you change the cassette seal every 500 cycles or every six months, whichever comes first. This point is actually ubiquitous across all Statim autoclaves.

Where do I purchase a replacement seal?

If you can, always purchase a manufacturer’s OEM seals. The aftermarket seals do work but are less reliable and are prone to may more issues such as leakage and other major problems down the line.

Now we’ll show you how to simply but safely replace your Statim 2000 Casette Seal!

Removing the Old Seal

Start this process by taking some kind of flat tool, like a screwdriver or spatula, and sticking it between the seal and metal wall. Wedge it down enough to be able to grab and pull the seal out, then continue until it’s all the way out. Be sure to check the place where the seal sat in the lid carefully to make sure you position the new seal properly.

Checking the Condition of the Statim 2000 Cassette Lid.

While you have the seal out it is important to check the condition of the Scican Statim Cassette Lid. Inspect all of the edges and surfaces where the seal sits. You want to look for any debris, rust, or issues that may cause the seal to not seat properly.

Putting the New Seal In

Take the new seal out of the package and place it next to you on a clean workspace as to not dirty your new seal. Also, be sure to keep in mind the orientation of where the original seal was to make your job of inserting this new one a bit easier. Notice in the package also is the include lubrication kit. Take the kit out, and put about a quarter portion of lube inside the center of the cassette lid to start. Then put some on your finger and generously lubricate the new seal through and through.

To begin inserting the seal, take one of the rounded edges of the seal and place it under the round lip of the lid. Take the first block and place it in the first corner, and he second one the same way. Then take your fingers and press the seal into the groove from the center to the corners.

NOTE: At every corner and at the holes in the lid, two square nibs should be visible. The nibs should fit flush with the lid’s outer surface.

Complete this process again with the third and fourth corners, checking the back for any incorrect placements and making sure the seal is sat in its proper position.

Now that you’ve gotten the seal inserted completely, take a small amount of the lube on your finger and rub it around the edge of the seal to double check everything’s flush and fitting.

Finishing Touches

Just do one more quick, but thorough inspection on the seal to make sure everything is in proper sorts. Check for any twists or kinks in the seal, then just spread out any remaining lube on the inside and replace the lid and you’re done!

A caution symbolCAUTION: Be careful. The metal parts will be hot, and the cassette may contain hot steam.

  1. Hi, What kind of lubrication oil is used to put on the seal when installing the new seal for either 2000/5000!
Can I buy a bigger bottle somewhere and what type of the oil should I get?
    Thanks

    1. There is a small bottle of mineral oil that comes with the kit. You can use mineral oil or a non-detergent liquid soap.
