What’s Included in the Air Techniques AS30 Oil-Less Dual Headed Compressor PM Kit?

The air compressor is, arguably, the most used piece of equipment in a dental practice. It acts as the “lungs” of the entire working system of the practice. Dental air compressors channel sterile air through an array of tools throughout the working area. The water syringes, drill motors, even the hydraulics in the dental chair. The list of uses that a dental air compressor provides is long, which means that maintenance is all the more important to it.

In this article, we’d like to look at the maintenance kit for a specific dental compressor: the Air Techniques AS30 Oil-less Dual Headed Compressor. We’ll take a brief look at the compressor itself and some of its important information. As well as covering the contents of the PM kit, to ensure you’ve got the parts you need for proper maintenance.

What is a Dental Air Compressor?

A dental compressor is the “lungs” of a dental practice. You might find a standard air compressor in a garage is designed to power pneumatic tools. A dental compressorhowever, is a specialized medical-grade device engineered to produce clean, dry, and pressurized air.

This air is the primary power source for almost everything a dentist uses during a procedure. From the high-speed handpieces and drills, to the air/water syringes, even powering some of the largest equipment. It powers the air-driven motors in the dental chair, assists in the operation of sterilization equipment, and powers other various pieces of equipment. They’re designed for power, efficiency, and even tasked with maintaining a proper working atmosphere with various noise reduction methods for patients and practitioners.

The most critical distinction for a dental compressor is that it is oil-less. In a standard compressor, oil is used to lubricate the pistons. Which can lead to trace amounts of oil vapor entering the air lines. Oil vapor in the air can interfere with the bonding of composites and resins to a patient’s teeth, causing fillings or crowns to fail. Second, and more importantly, the air is being exhausted directly into a patient’s mouth. An oil-less system ensures that no mechanical lubricants ever come into contact with the patient.

A Brief Look at the Air Techniques AS30 CompressorAir Techniques AS30 Oil-less Three Headed Compressor

The Air Techniques AS30 (aka the Air Star 30), serves as a high-performance solution for dental practices supporting three to four simultaneous users. It delivers 5.0 cubic feet per minute at 80 psi through its 1.5 horsepower dual-headed motor. Built for long-term reliability, as the system utilizes linear Teflon-bonded pistons with 100% oil-less compression. While storing air in a 12-gallon tank with an antimicrobial interior powder coating. Its compact frame, measuring 29″ x 30.5″ x 20″, is designed for space-saving installation. With an optional sound cover available to dampen the mechanical noise for offices that measures the unit at 31″ x 32″ x 22.25″.

The AS30’s design prioritizes safety and purity, highlighted by its exclusive Membrane Dryer Technology. This system ensures air is quadruple-filtered at the compressor head, twice at the dryer, and again upon leaving the tank. Resulting in a low-pressure dew point that eliminates damp conditions and maintains humidity at approximately 20%. This level of dryness is significantly lower than hazardous thresholds and exceeds NFPA standards. This effectively prevents the moisture-rich environments where microorganisms and rust typically thrive, protecting both sensitive handpieces and patient health.

To further ensure a sterile clinical environment, the AS30 incorporates AirStar Virus-Bacteria Filters that work in tandem with the drying unit. These filters have been independently verified to retain greater than 99.99995% of all particles regardless of size, providing a critical barrier against pathogens. By combining this high-efficiency filtration with 115 psi maximum pressure and a maintenance-free oil-less design, the AS30 offers a sophisticated, high-capacity air source that prioritizes the longevity of dental equipment and the uncompromising safety of the operatory.
