Is there a difference between an autoclave and a sterilizer? These two terms can be used interchangeably. Both of these devices can be used to sterilize reusable instruments. Additionally, they use saturated steam as the disinfectant. The two main types of sterilizers are prevacuum and steam flush pressure pulse. The difference between these sterilizers is the method in which the air is removed during the conditioning process.
What type of water should be used with a Statim sterilizer? When using a Statim autoclave, steam-distilled water should always be used. If other types of water are used, it can damage the unit. If you purchase distilled water, it’s recommended that you use a water conductivity tester to ensure there are no impurities present.
How is something classified as a disinfectant? A disinfected s a chemical solution that is used on an inanimate object to put an end to the existence of any recognized pathogenic microorganisms. Manufacturers of disinfectants are responsible for having proof the product is effective when used according to the instructions.
How should instruments be cleaned with a Statim sterilizer? Before inserting the used instruments into the Statim, they should be thoroughly washed, rinsed, and dried. Then, they may be inserted into the machine for sterilization. The pressurized steam within an autoclave Statim, which is about 270 degrees Fahrenheit, 30 psi, is adequate for destroying the majority of contaminants.
Is protective equipment required to be worn when using disinfectants? You should always wear some form or protective equipment, like utility gloves, when cleaning with disinfectants. But some products are non-irritating, meaning you’d be okay without using protective equipment. However, there are some products with much harsher chemicals that would require the use of heavy protective equipment.
