How and When to Properly Maintain Your Statim Autoclave

Autoclave maintenance is important, very important. With such an expensive machine with extensive machinery, proper care of your autoclave is essential. EspeciallySciCan Statim 2000 Demo Unit considering how important it is to the health and safety of every employee and patient. And we’re sure that if you’re reading this, then you can tell how important it is too. Preventative Maintenance is to make sure your autoclave is always running in top shape and leaves nothing to chance. But the process in and of itself has many steps over and can look daunting from the outside. So today we’d like to help guide you through the preventative maintenance of your Statim 2000 and Statim 5000 autoclave unit. 

We’ll go over the steps you need to take for the daily, weekly, monthly, bi-annually and yearly maintenance schedule cycles. But if there’s any other help you need then don’t worry. Daily Maintenance 

Daily maintenance consists of just the things that need to be changed at the end of the day to prepare your autoclave for the next work day. Here is what the daily maintenance consists of: 

  • Replace the water in the reservoir (you may want to drain it at the end of the day, but not refill it with fresh water until the next day) 
  • Empty the waste water bottle when you refill the reservoir
  • Fill the waste bottle up to the mark with water and add chlorine disinfectant as needed

Weekly Maintenance 
  • Wash the cassette interior with mild detergent or dishwashing soap
  • Clean the insides with a Teflon-safe cleaning pad
  • Rinse thoroughly to remove all leftover cleaning product
  • Use branded drying agent to treat the inside
  • Conduct a CDC recommended spore test on your sterilizer
  • Check the air filter, if it’s dirty, replace it, if it’s wet, call maintenance
  • Check and clean the water reservoir, and replace it if necessary

Every 6 Months (or Every 500 Cycles)
  • Replace the Cassette Seal 
  • Replace the Biological/Air FIlter

Yearly Maintenance

When it comes to the yearly maintenance, you should contact your autoclave maintenance service for scheduled maintenance on your machine. The yearly maintenance will include the following steps: 

  • Check the seal lid and tray for damage to replace if necessary 
  • Inspecting the filter for moisture and dirt and replacing if necessary
  • Replacing the Check Valve
  • Inspecting and cleaning the solenoid valves and pump
  • Replacing the plunger if necessary 
  • Checking the compressor tube for leaks 
  • Calibrating the unit
