What are Halyard’s PureZero Ultra-Violet Nitrile Gloves?

In the high-stakes world of medical, laboratory, and industrial work, the safety of your equipment is as critical as the work itself. While various materials exist for hand protection, nitrile has emerged as the gold standard for durability and barrier protection. But when it comes to nitrile gloves, no one does it like Halyard. And in this article, we’re going to show you why. We’d like to talk about one of their newest gloves, the PureZero Ultra-Violet Nitrile Gloves.

What is Nitrile?

Nitrile comes from a synthetic rubber polymer. A copolymer to be precise. Copolymers come from two monomers, in this case, acrylonitrile and butadiene. These monomers are placed into a vat and put through the process of polymerizationA process of reacting monomer molecules together in a chemical reaction to form polymer chains or three-dimensional networks.

Unlike their counterparts, nitrile gloves offer many  exceptional benefits and protections. Like chemical resistance—capable of handling potent substances like chemotherapy drugs. As far as durability goes, nitrile has it in spades. Nitrile is three to four times more puncture-resistant, making it indispensable for handling sharp objects.

Beyond their robust physical protection, nitrile gloves are engineered for user comfort and safety. They are entirely free of the natural rubber proteins found in latex, eliminating the risk of allergic reactions for the wearer. Once on, the material utilizes the user’s body temperature to form a precise, comfortable fit, and their naturally frictionless surface eliminates the need for messy powders.

Furthermore, their waterproof nature, extended shelf life, and ability to withstand demanding conditions make them the preferred solution all across the industry. Including the industrial, medical, and food service industries.

What Does PureZero Mean?

Halyard’s gloves boast a variety of different labels that all tell you something about the glove. In this case, we’re talking about PureZero label. Halyard uses the PureZero label for gloves that represent their line of cleanroom/life science nitrile gloves.

These gloves are meant to be used in scenarios and operations where absolute purity is required. PureZero gloves use an accelerator-free formula that eliminates the chemicals that are found in other nitrile gloves. Usually, accelerators like sulfurthiuramscarbamates are used during the vulcanization process to make nitrile. It’s what gives the gloves elasticity and strength. But these chemicals can sort of leach out when the gloves are worn, causing various forms of irritation or allergic reactions. These chemicals typically lead to specific reactions like Type IV Hypersensitivity Reactions, increased hand dryness, and even dermatitis.

Halyard’s PureZero Ultra-Violet Nitrile Gloves refine the nitrile formula to feature an even lower, or almost nonexistent presence of these chemical irritants. They’re listed as “accelerator-free, or non-detectable levels of residual chemicals.” Which means that the gloves are engineered to greatly reduce the risk of allergies or contact dermatitis. It also reflects the “PureZero” label, as these black nitrile gloves are meant to be a more pure protection option, able to be used in areas of the industry that focus on life science and cleanrooms.

Halyard’s PureZero Ultra-Violet Nitrile Gloves are one of their newest releases that add to their already impressive lineup of nitrile offerings. Their gloves are varied in what makes them unique. And with the PureZero label, that means that thee gloves are meant for specific situations. The PureZero Ultra-Violet nitrile gloves are part of a set of Halyard’s other life science gloves: Ultra-Violet, Limon and Marin. With each one being color coded to its level of protection.

The Ultra-Violet nitrile gloves are on the lower end of protection, meaning they’re the thinnest of the three. Sporting a palm thickness of 2.8 mil and a fingertip thickness of 3.5 mil. But don’t think that that thin shield means that they’r weak. Thanks to nitrile, these gloves can withstand more than you realize. Not only is nitrile 3-4 times more puncture resistant than vinyl or latex… but the PureZero Ultra-Violet Nitrile Gloves are tested against 14 different chemotherapy drugs, fentanyl and 57 other chemicals. And along with that, like other gloves in Halyard’s PureZero line, these Ultra-Violet gloves are food safe. They’re approved compliant for food handling applications, which increases their compatibility in other settings outside of just medical.

And they’re also powder-free and rubber latex-free. Which means that they won’t trigger any type 1 allergic reactions or latex allergies… and they also lack the powder that some gloves use for easier donning. Meaning that they wont cause any irritation, dryness or dermatitis. All of that, and these Ultra-Violet Nitrile Gloves are rated at an AQL of 1.0, meaning the chance of defects in your box is very very low.

Along with that, they sport a 9.5” beaded cuff to prevent roll down. They’re also manufactured to be ambidextrous. That way, they’ll fit on either hand no matter what. And with nitrile’s ability to form to body heat, your dexterity and tactile sensitivity is anything but hindered.
